Comparison
Replov vs Heroku
Heroku runs apps on dynos with buildpacks or containers, Heroku Postgres and Key-Value Store, and an add-on marketplace. Its shared regions are the US and EU; Mumbai is available only in Private Spaces.
Replov is a managed PaaS that runs web services, static sites, private services, background workers, cron jobs and Redis in Bangalore, with managed PostgreSQL through Vitibase in Mumbai, priced per service in rupees.

At a glance
| Replov | Heroku | |
|---|---|---|
| Best suited to | Developers and small teams in India who want apps, workers, cron jobs, Redis and PostgreSQL in Indian regions, priced in rupees. | Teams that rely on buildpacks, the add-on marketplace, or Heroku Enterprise features such as Private Spaces. |
| How you deploy | Connect GitHub and deploy on every push (Auto Deploy), from the dashboard, or from an AI coding agent through the Replov MCP connector. A Dockerfile in the repository is used as written; Node.js gets a generated Dockerfile; other languages are built with Nixpacks. | git push, GitHub integration, the Container Registry or heroku.yml; buildpacks by default. |
| Service types | Web service, static site, private service, background worker, cron job (with timezone), Redis. | Web, worker and one-off dynos; scheduled jobs through the Heroku Scheduler add-on (every 10 minutes, hourly or daily; runs are “expected but not guaranteed”). |
| Managed databases | Managed PostgreSQL through Vitibase (with REST APIs, auth, storage and realtime), and managed Redis from the Micro tier. | Heroku Postgres (from $5/month), Heroku Key-Value Store (from $3/month), Apache Kafka; MySQL through third-party add-ons. |
| Pricing model | Fixed price per service by compute tier, billed hourly or per 30 days from a prepaid wallet. | Fixed price per dyno, prorated to the second up to the monthly maximum. |
| Free tier or trial | Two Nano static sites per account have no compute charge. Each new service on a tier above Nano gets a 3-day trial. | No free dynos. Eco dynos cost $5/month for a shared pool of 1,000 hours and sleep after 30 minutes idle. |
| Smallest paid instance | Nano: 0.5 vCPU, 512 MB, ₹199 per 30 days. | Basic: 512 MB, $7/month (Eco $5/month as a shared pool). |
| India region | Yes. Applications run in Bangalore (DigitalOcean BLR1); managed PostgreSQL in Mumbai (AWS ap-south-1). Daily backups are stored in Singapore. | Only in Private Spaces (Mumbai), which require Heroku Teams or Enterprise. Common Runtime apps run in the US or EU. |
| Regions | India: Bangalore for applications, Mumbai for managed PostgreSQL. | Common Runtime: US and EU. Private Spaces: Dublin, Frankfurt, London, Montreal, Mumbai, Oregon, Singapore, Sydney, Tokyo, Virginia. |
| Scaling | Vertical only (change the compute tier). No horizontal replicas or autoscaling. | Manual dyno scaling; autoscaling only on Performance, Private and Shield dynos. |
| Custom domains and HTTPS | Custom domains on web services and static sites, verified by CNAME and TXT; automatic Let’s Encrypt certificates. | Custom domains with Automated Certificate Management included for all apps. |
| Logs and metrics | Build and runtime logs with live streaming; CPU, memory and network metrics. No log export. | Logplex keeps the latest 1,500 lines on the Cedar stack; log drains and add-ons for retention. |
| Persistent storage | Volumes of 1–100 GB at ₹15 per GB-month; daily encrypted backups kept 7 days on Micro and above. | Ephemeral filesystem; no persistent disks. |
| Billing currency | INR. | USD. |
When Heroku is the better fit
- You depend on buildpacks, the add-on marketplace, or Heroku Postgres features.
- You need autoscaling, or an enterprise contract with Private Spaces (including Mumbai).
When Replov is the better fit
- You want an Indian region without an enterprise plan, and rupee billing.
- You need persistent volumes, which Heroku dynos do not have.
- You want managed PostgreSQL in India (Vitibase, Mumbai) without an enterprise plan.
- You want cron jobs with standard cron expressions and a timezone instead of the Scheduler add-on’s fixed intervals.
Moving from Heroku to Replov
- Procfile process types map to Replov services:
webto a web service, eachworkerto a background worker, scheduled tasks to cron jobs. Each is a separate service with its own tier. - Replov does not use buildpacks. Node.js apps build without configuration; for other stacks a Dockerfile gives the most predictable result.
- Copy config vars into Replov environment variables; store credentials as secrets.
- Move Heroku Postgres to managed PostgreSQL on Vitibase with pg_dump and pg_restore; Heroku Key-Value Store maps to Replov Redis.
- Heroku’s release phase has no direct equivalent; run migrations at start-up or as a cron job you trigger.
