Managed PaaS in India: what to check, and where Replov fits

A managed platform-as-a-service (PaaS) builds your code and runs it for you: it handles the build, containers, routing, HTTPS certificates and restarts, so you deploy an application instead of administering a server. Heroku popularised the model; Railway, Render, Fly.io, DigitalOcean App Platform and Replov are current examples.

Replov is a managed PaaS built in India. It runs web services, static sites, private services, background workers, cron jobs and Redis in Bangalore, offers managed PostgreSQL through Vitibase in Mumbai, and bills everything in rupees from one prepaid wallet.

What Indian teams should check in a PaaS

  • Region: where the application actually runs. A server in India usually means lower latency for Indian users than Singapore, Europe or the US.
  • Data location: where databases, volumes, logs and backups are stored, which can differ from where the app runs. Check this if you have data-residency requirements.
  • Currency and tax: whether you pay in INR or in USD by international card, and how GST is applied.
  • Service types: whether background workers, cron jobs, private services and Redis are available alongside web apps.
  • Databases: whether managed PostgreSQL and Redis run in the same country as your app, or whether you bring your own.
  • Pricing model: fixed price per instance versus usage-based billing, and what the free tier really covers.
  • Scaling and deploys: autoscaling, replicas, and whether deploys are zero-downtime.

Which platforms run applications in India?

Checked on the vendors’ own documentation on 2026-10-22:

PlatformIndia regionBilled in
ReplovYes: applications in Bangalore (DigitalOcean BLR1), managed PostgreSQL in Mumbai (AWS ap-south-1). Backups are stored in Singapore.INR
RailwayNo. The nearest region is Singapore.USD.
RenderNo. The nearest region is Singapore.USD.
HerokuOnly in Private Spaces (Mumbai), which require Heroku Teams or Enterprise. Common Runtime apps run in the US or EU.USD.
DigitalOcean App PlatformYes: Bangalore (BLR) for dynamic apps; static sites there are served through a CDN.USD only; Indian customers are charged 18% GST unless they add a GST ID.
Fly.ioNo. The nearest region is Singapore (sin).USD.
VercelYes, for functions: Mumbai (bom1) can be chosen as the function region; the default is Washington, D.C. Static files are served from the global CDN.USD; GST and other taxes are added based on your billing address.

What Replov offers today

  • Six service types: Web Service, Static Site, Private Service, Background Worker, Cron Job, Redis.
  • Builds from GitHub: Node.js with a generated Dockerfile, other runtimes (Python, Go, Ruby, Rust, Java, PHP, Flutter Web) with Nixpacks, or your own Dockerfile.
  • Compute tiers from Nano (0.5 vCPU, 512 MB, ₹199 per 30 days) to Large (8 vCPU, 8 GB), billed hourly or per 30 days.
  • Managed PostgreSQL through Vitibase, a managed Postgres platform with REST APIs, authentication, storage, realtime and connection pooling. Each app gets its own database login as DATABASE_URL, billed from the same wallet.
  • Custom domains with automatic HTTPS, persistent volumes with daily backups (Micro and above), managed Redis, encrypted secrets, logs and metrics.
  • An MCP connector so AI coding agents can deploy and operate apps, with prices and secrets approved by you.

PaaS, VPS or IaaS?

IaaS (virtual machines, networks, disks) gives you building blocks and full responsibility. A VPS is one such machine: you install and patch the OS, runtime, reverse proxy and certificates yourself, and can run anything. A PaaS takes your code and runs it within a set of service types: less control, far less operations work.

A PaaS fits most web apps, APIs, workers and scheduled jobs. A VPS or IaaS fits workloads that need root access, custom kernels or networking, GPUs, or software the PaaS does not support.

Frequently asked questions

What is Replov?

Replov (sometimes called Replov Cloud) is a managed platform-as-a-service built in India. You connect a GitHub repository and Replov builds it into a container and runs it as a web service, static site, private service, background worker, cron job or Redis, with HTTPS, logs and metrics, and managed PostgreSQL through Vitibase. Applications run in Bangalore, and managed PostgreSQL databases (through Vitibase) run in Mumbai.

Is Replov a managed PaaS?

Yes. Replov runs the build, the containers, routing, HTTPS certificates and restarts for you. You do not get or administer a server; you configure services, environment variables and compute tiers.

Which languages and frameworks does Replov support?

Replov detects Node.js (including Next.js, Express, NestJS and other Node servers), Python, Go, Ruby, Rust, Java, PHP and Flutter Web. Static sites built with plain HTML, Vite, Create React App, Angular, Astro, Gatsby, Hugo, Jekyll, Next.js static export, Nuxt generate or SvelteKit static are supported. Anything with a Dockerfile can also be deployed.

Deployment guides

Can I deploy from GitHub?

Yes. Connect GitHub, choose the repositories Replov may access, and pick a branch for each service. Monorepos are supported by setting a root directory per service.

GitHub integration

Does Replov support Docker?

Yes. If the service’s root directory contains a Dockerfile, Replov builds it as written and runs its CMD. Static sites always use Replov’s Nginx build.

Does Replov offer managed databases?

Yes. Managed PostgreSQL is provided through Vitibase, a managed Postgres platform with generated REST APIs, authentication, file storage, realtime and connection pooling. Create a database from Replov and each app receives its own login as DATABASE_URL, billed from your Replov wallet. Replov also runs managed Redis from the Micro tier. You can still connect any external database (Supabase, Neon, MongoDB Atlas…) through environment variables.

Is Replov free?

Not in general. The first two Nano static sites on an account have no compute charge. Each new service on a tier above Nano gets a 3-day trial. Otherwise services are paid from a prepaid INR wallet, starting at ₹199 per 30 days for a Nano service (0.5 vCPU, 512 MB).

Pricing

What are the limits of the free static sites?

They are static sites only (no server code), on the Nano tier, and limited to two per account. Nano services are not included in daily backups, and there is no CDN: files are served from Bangalore.

Does Replov support custom domains and HTTPS?

Yes, for web services and static sites. Add the domain, publish the CNAME and TXT records Replov shows, and verify. Replov then routes the hostname and issues a Let’s Encrypt certificate automatically. Every service also gets a <name>-<4 characters>.replov.com address with HTTPS.

Automatic HTTPS

Where are applications hosted?

In India. Applications, persistent volumes and Redis run in DigitalOcean’s Bangalore region (BLR1). Managed PostgreSQL databases from Vitibase run in AWS Mumbai (ap-south-1). Daily encrypted backups of volumes and Redis are stored in DigitalOcean Spaces in Singapore.

How is Replov different from a VPS?

On a VPS you install and patch the operating system, runtime, reverse proxy, TLS certificates and process manager yourself, and you can run anything. On Replov you push code and choose a service type; Replov builds, routes, secures and restarts it, but you work within its service types and cannot log in to the host.

Can Replov run background workers and cron jobs?

Yes. A background worker is a long-running process with no public route, such as a queue consumer. A cron job runs a command from your repository on a five-field cron schedule in the timezone you choose, can be run on demand, and keeps a history and logs for each run.

Background workersCron jobs

Does Replov autoscale?

No. Scaling is vertical: you move a service to a larger compute tier (up to 8 vCPU and 8 GB). Horizontal replicas and autoscaling are not available.

Can an AI coding agent deploy to Replov?

Yes. Replov has an MCP connector at mcp.replov.com with 16 tools for creating, deploying, configuring and operating apps. Anything that costs money or deletes something needs your confirmation, and agents never see secret values.
